We would like to let you all know that we will be closing the doors to The Mill House Hotel on the 26th November 2026 to embark on our exciting next chapter.…retirement.

We have had the pleasure of looking after so many weddings & celebrations, seen families grow and sadly, also said goodbye too.

It has been a real privilege to have spent nearly 33 years in this beautiful property, and we have met and worked with amazing people along the way, it has been the most incredible journey.

If you have been thinking of re-visiting The Mill House, now is the time. We have placed our available Sunday Lunch dates on the dining page which may be of interest, we also have other availability if you have a celebration coming up.  We would love to welcome you back.

The building will be handed over to the new owners in the New year.

We would like to express our thanks to all who have supported us over the years, without you we would not be here today.

WELCOME TO THE MILL HOUSE

The Mill House is set amidst beautiful, landscaped gardens sitting beside the river Loddon in the Berkshire countryside, conveniently situated in the ancient village of Swallowfield, near Reading. The Georgian house was built in the nineteenth century and for over 25 years has been run under the personal direction of Mark & Kim Pybus whose emphasis is focused on providing comfort and relaxation, fabulous food and friendly service ensuring an excellent guest experience.

After careful restoration to its former Georgian glory, keeping the original design of high ceilings and large spacious reception rooms, all guest accommodation is individually decorated with ensuite facilities. The Mill House has become very popular with both corporate guests wanting a home from home retreat or guests with some leisure time on their hands wanting to get away from it all. A particular feature of this fine country hotel is the food. The Mill House lent itself naturally to become a renowned and fashionable restaurant whose charm and character is much in evidence today. The Mill House is in an ideal location with easy access to the M4, Berkshire and the M3, giving you the opportunity to get away from the pressures of the city.     We got married at The Mill House Hotel in June and everything was absolutely perfect, better than we could have imagined. Everything went smoothly, and our guests couldn’t stop complimenting the beautiful location and the delicious food.

    The garden is simply stunning and created the perfect backdrop for our day. From the very first time we visited, we knew The Mill House was the right place for our wedding. The peaceful atmosphere we felt on that first visit was exactly what we experienced on our special day. You made every step of the process so easy and enjoyable, we truly felt in safe hands.

    “Beautiful setting and gardens, a table layout inside that was personalised for us and all the sandwiches, fancies, cakes and home made sausage rolls (delicious) we could eat - all served by Mark and Kim and presented with complete professionalism that saw to our every need throughout the afternoon.

    Delighted to say it was a perfect little family get together - and we will be back for Dinner! Thank you - you made a memorable event go off without a hitch which meant we could all relax and enjoy ourselves. I used to be in the business so it's an extra special 'thanks' from me.”

  • SUPRISE PARTY

    “I organised a surprise party for my wife for a Saturday night. Many of the people stayed overnight and overflowed to other hotels in the area. 50 people attended.

    The Hotel and the staff were really professional from the organisation stage through to the checkout on the next morning.

    The party had access to the entire hotel, one room set up for the band (5 piece band) and dancing, a bar area, a buffet area and a quiet area.

    The whole thing was really successful and in my mind couldn't have gone any better.

  • OUR WEDDING

    If we had to use one word to describe The Mill House staff it would be “Brilliant” Nothing was too much trouble. Mark, Kim and Jo, to name but a few, were so friendly and accommodating which made for a very happy and relaxed atmosphere for everyone.

    If we had to use one word to describe the actual hotel and its settings it would be “Perfect”! Beautiful building and gardens which created fantastic photo opportunities.

    If we had to use one word to describe the food it would be “Delicious”! No more needs to be said here apart from huge credit to the Chef!

  • LOVELY STAY

    “We were very happy with the hotel. We stayed two nights in room 7, with its huge 4 poster bed. It’s a large, comfortable room, very high ceilings, with a chaise longue and comfortable chair.

    Room 7 is at the front of the hotel and we were a bit concerned about noise from the road. But we need not have worried - the glazing is highly effective and we heard no noise”

    We found the hotel itself and grounds charming. It was a pleasure to be there for two nights with excellent friendly service from Chris to welcome us and settle us in the bar with some fine local cheeses, and Anita providing us with a great breakfast each morning. Many thanks to Kim and the whole team for making us feel so comfortable and welcome.
